Iquitos Malnutrition Crisis Project
Peru • June - Yearly

About the Project
Iquitos sits deep in the Peruvian Amazon — surrounded by rivers, reachable only by air or boat, and largely cut off from the healthcare systems. For the native communities living along the riverbanks, a doctor’s visit isn’t a phone call away. It simply doesn’t happen.
That’s why A Thousand Ways went there. In June 2026, our team spent 7 days on the ground — bringing nutrition screenings, medical support, and preventive care directly to families who had little or no access to any of it. We focused especially on children, where the need was most visible and the window to make a difference most urgent.
What We Did
Our team combined malnutrition screenings, medical care, community health education, and hands-on support for local caregivers. Rather than waiting for families to come to us, we went to them — reaching children in communities far from any clinic or health service.
Our Impact
We went to Iquitos not just to provide short-term relief, but to leave something lasting behind. Alongside direct care, we worked to strengthen local capacity — training caregivers, providing essential supplies, and building the kind of knowledge that stays in a community long after a team has gone home.

Join The Missions In the Future
The Iquitos Project is just the beginning. Every year, A Thousand Ways returns to communities in need — bringing care, building trust, and going further than the year before.
Whether you want to volunteer on the ground, support us from home, or help us reach more families next time, there’s a place for you in this mission.
